The Star of Doctor Who updated fans on social media after he was taken to hospital in Bristol on Saturday.

Critically ill father gets to watch The Rise Of Skywalker early with his family at hospice, “STAR-WARS”

A dying man was granted his wish to see the new Star Wars film before its release date thanks to an appeal by the Rowans Hospice. Pic: Rowans Hospice

The movie was couriered under top secret orders to the Rowans Hospice in Hampshire after a plea to help the father went viral on social media, with star Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the series, helping out.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is the ninth and final episode in the long-running Skywalker saga, but it is not due for release in the UK until 19 December.

"This morning, a very nice man named Jonathan from Disney turned up at our Hospice with a laptop that had a very important movie on it. Our amazing patient has now seen #StarWars #RiseofSkywalker with his son 💚." Pic: Rowans Hospice

Within 24 hours of the plea last week, Disney chairman Bob Iger arranged for the early screening, and the unnamed patient was able to watch the film with his family by his side.

“He is extremely tired but apparently for the whole time the film was on he was completely with it,” she said

The plea started with a tweet referencing one of the most famous lines from the original Star Wars film from 1977 – “This is our most desperate hour” – and was picked up by Hamill, who wished the hospice “good luck” and urged staff to get in touch with Disney.

Ms White said the patient “couldn’t believe it” when he was told that Hamill had responded.

“He was just really shocked,” she said.

“I don’t think it was in any of our wildest dreams that this would actually happen and become a reality.”

A “minder” from Disney was there to ensure the film did not leave the room, Ms White said, and everyone who got to see it had to sign forms to say they would not reveal any details before the release date.

“His youngest son had to do a pinky promise,” she said.

“Everyone had phones confiscated and there were lots of signatures on very legal-looking forms.”

In a statement released by the hospice, the patient said he wanted to give the “biggest thank you to everyone that has helped to make this happen”.

“During what is just a horrible situation to be in, you have helped to make some wonderful memories and bring some joy to my family. I am a huge Star Wars fan and what I am going through is completely dire.

“Then to top it all, I thought I wasn’t going to see the film I have been waiting to see since 1977! I still can’t believe it. The only way I can describe this to you is to say that this must be what it feels like to be told you have won a million pounds!”

Hope the Rowan Hospice patient not only enjoyed the film, but gets an extra-special satisfaction in knowing he saw it before I did.” Many thanks to @RobertIger & everyone at @Disney for making this happen Hamill retweeted!

OMG, Here comes the world’s largest undersea restaurant

This looks quite amazing as the Restaurant is situated 5m below the sea off the coast of Lindesnes, Norway, Europe’s first underwater restaurant serves fresh seafood with a one-of-a-kind view.

Amazing!

For more than two centuries, the island of Fernando de Noronha was used as a prison due to its isolated location off the coast of Brazil. Criminals served sentences there, unable to freely enjoy its crystal clear waters and breathtaking views. Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, Fernando de Noronha is a sought-after destination. Residents and families of former inmates who remained in the island take advantage of its good quality of life

Months before it opened, the world’s largest underwater restaurant in Norway was already flooded with reservations. Recently, Business Insiderreported that Under has finally started serving its first guests. If you can’t book a table at the hottest restaurant below sea level, you can look at the photos taken inside to get an idea of the unique dining experience.

In addition to being the largest underwater restaurant on Earth, Under, from the architecture firm Snøhetta, is also the first of its kind in Europe. It’s located in the notoriously treacherous waters off Norway’s southern coast.

After entering the angled building from the shore, guests descend into a 100-person dining room with panoramic views of the ocean and passing marine life. The concrete structure is designed to blend seamlessly into the surrounding environment, eventually acting as an artificial reef that attracts plants and animals. The location boasts such biodiversity that Under is also being used as a research center for marine biologists.

In Hong Kong, Police and protesters clash on handover anniversary

Police and protesters

City chief Carrie Lam attended the annual flag-raising ceremony on Monday, while police used pepper spray to contain demonstrators.

Millions have protested in recent weeks over a controversial extradition bill, which would allow people to be sent to mainland China for trial.

The government has agreed to suspend it indefinitely, but the rallies continue.

Ms Lam is facing ongoing calls for her resignation, and large crowds are expected to attend the annual pro-democracy demonstration later.

Their demands include a complete withdrawal of the extradition bill, revoking the term “riot” to describe protests on 12 June, releasing all detained activists, and investigations into police violence.

Speaking on Monday, Ms Lam said events in June had made her realise she needed to invest more time listening to people.

“I will learn the lesson and ensure that the government’s future work will be closer and more responsive to the aspirations, sentiments and opinions of the community,” she said.

As she attended the official ceremony to mark the handover, protesters held a parallel event nearby, raising a black flag to show their fears for freedom in the territory.

Authorities said demonstrators had blocked several roads in the city from 0400 local time.

A police statement condemned “illegal acts” by protesters who it said had taken iron poles and guard rails from nearby construction sites. It warned demonstrators not to throw bricks or charge police cordon lines.

Why have people been protesting?

Hong Kong has been part of China since 1997 under the “one country, two systems” principle, which allows it freedoms not seen on the mainland, including judicial independence.

The extradition bill raised concerns for that status.

Critics of the bill feared it could be used to target opponents of the government in Beijing, and to bring Hong Kong further under China’s control.

Hong Kong protesters

On 12 June police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse crowds marching against the bill – the worst violence in the city in decades.

Eventually, the demonstrations forced the government to apologise and suspend the planned extradition law.

There have also been smaller demonstrations from the territory’s pro-Beijing movement, however.

On Sunday,  thousands of pro-Beijing protesters rallied  in support of the territory’s police.

Jarrell Miller denied licence to fight Anthony Joshua after adverse finding in drug test

Jarrell Miller will be able to reapply if B sample does not show an adverse finding

Jarrell Miller has been denied a licence to fight Anthony Joshua by the New York State Athletic Commission following an adverse finding from a drugs test in March.

The decision to deny his licence does not guarantee that the fight against AJ is off – and Miller will be able to reapply if his B sample does not show an adverse finding.

However, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has said that they are likely to need a new opponent.

Miller is due to fight IBF, WBA and WBO champion Joshua on June 1 at Madison Square Garden in New York, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Earlier on Wednesday, Hearn said on Twitter of the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) test: “We have been informed by VADA that there has been an adverse finding in Jarrell Miller’s sample collected on March 20, 2019.

“We are working with all relevant parties and will update with more details soon.

“AJ’s preparation continues for June 1 at MSG.”

Chelsea will take part in the March of the Living in Poland in May before travelling to Boston to play the New England Revolution in a charity match.

The Stamford Bridge club became the first from the Premier League to send a delegation to the annual event, which is held in remembrance of the Holocaust, 12 months ago and they will now be joined by a contingent from the MLS side on May 2.

Their participation will be the latest activity in a continuing series of commitments both organisations have made as part of a joint effort between Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and the Kraft family, who own the Revolution, to harness the power of sport to combat anti-Semitism and discrimination around the world.

Chelsea will be represented by former manager Avram Grant, director Eugene Tenenbaum, chief executive officer Guy Laurence and club ambassador Sir Steve Redgrave.

The clubs will then meet on the football field in Boston on May 15 for a match which will be played under the banner of “The Final Whistle on Hate”.

All proceeds will go towards raising funds for projects promoting equality and tolerance, with beneficiaries including the World Jewish Congress, the Tree of Life synagogue, the Anti-Defamation League, and the Holocaust Educational Trust.

Tenenbaum said: “Chelsea is honoured to participate in the March of the Living for the second year in a row.

“We started this initiative to raise awareness of and tackle anti-Semitism in all its forms more than a year ago and sharing this experience of paying our respects to the millions of Jews who lost their lives in the Holocaust with members of the New England Revolution goes a long way in spreading the message of unity and tolerance.”
